Hello Forrest Books reader. Today I am reviewing 'Blitzed' by Robert Swindells. 'Blitzed' is a child action book. It's about a boy, George, who gets sent back in time to the 1940's. George has always loved World War Two but when he is living it he soon learns its not what it says in the History Books.

Besides George the main characters are Ma and other children (all without parents, you never find out why although some may have ran away from their evacuation home and some may be orphans) and a group of search light workers (all nick named). The main antagonist is Rags: Ma's boss at a second hand clothes shop who is the center of the main twist.)
I enjoyed the book but it dragged on in places. I liked it because the characters were interesting and George's narration was good and there were a lot of funny parts. But towards the end it got confusing when the Dual Narrative was introduced although the effect was good but one character was saying what another was doing and it got confusing.
I think using World War Two as the era George goes back to was great as there were differences between the 'now' and 'then'. Also having World War Two as something George was enthusiastic about gave the book more optimism also it allowed the book to be more informational as George could say things he knew about it.
My favourite chapter was chapter 13 where the transition between 2002 and 1940 took place. Or and sorry I cant remember the exact chapter number but the chapter where George finds out about Shrapnel's (a boy George meets in 1940) death. Where you see how it effects them all and learn about Puggie (I think that's what his name was).
I think the book is perfect for school use as its informational and its good for house use if you are a child (9+ or when comfortable with death).

I myself haven't read a lot of Time Travel books as I prefer to read Action or Teenage books but when I was a child one of my favourite TV shows was Time Warp Trio where 3 boys (and later 3 girls) go back in time to various places.
